With the World Bank support, a new water supply system was launched in the Vose district in southern Tajikistan, which connected 11,875 residents of 3 rural villages to safely managed water supply services. The inauguration of the “Javani” facility took place with the visit of the Regional Director of the World Bank for Sustainable Development in Europe and Central Asia, Anna Bjerde.

14 rural villages to safely managed water supply services.

Women spend 1 to 2 hours
every day to carry and collect water. In the world, women and girls carry water
in 72% of families. Girls are twice as likely to be carriers of water than
boys.
One of the most important components of the global gender agenda today is water, which, according to the outcome document of the Rio + 20 conference, plays a key role in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.
To date, the main gender issues related to water are, first of all, the impact of improving access to drinking water, solving problems related to sanitation and hygiene, and reducing women’s household responsibilities.
